It was a really beautiful day today. Sun was shining and the weather was chilly but not too cold. Every once in a while a slight breeze would make big snowflakes fall slowly off the trees. We walked at the city center just as the sun was setting, taking the scenic routes. I got a lot of pretty pictures and the difficult choice ended up to this one.
That place is called "Linnansaari" or "Castle Island". There was a castle centuries ago. It was built in 1500's, destroyed a couple of times, and finally blown to pieces in 1793 when the gunpowder stored in the cellar exploded. Later an astronomy tower was built on top of the old cellar and since 1912 there has been a cafeteria working at the same building.
I've never been to the cafeteria or seen the cellar, even though I go past it every time I go to city center. I like the building and it's bright pink colour lightened up nicely in the sunset. It's a piece of history in the middle of Oulu.
